In the season's earlier encounter, Muddies C grade were outdone by the lower ranked Mulgrave Toads who, in a close match, chased down their respectable 3/135.

Given the weather of last week and some observation of the junior matches on the same pitch a day earlier Muddies chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Mulgrave were soon in all sorts of trouble on a pitch that initially offered great bounce and carry, as Schiesser (2/23) mesmerised with the ball. Well-backed by a his luckless bowling partner Schulz (0/21), the experienced bowler struck twice in 9 balls along with assisting a run-out taken ultimately by Postans to have the Toads 3/13.

Driver (0/15) lacked a little consistency, but it was Julian Porter who secured the bowling end of Schiesser and managed his first wicket for the club, a sharp catch to Schulz at short mid wicket to leave the visitors 4/17. Barnes bowled from the opposite of his usual end but still showed his skill as the Toads skipper watched his partner sky a catch to Postans who was getting a hand in everything and Porter (3/15) continued with another catch to Driver diving to a deeper mid wicket and then bowled the number 8 Toad who's team were now crippled at 7/38.

Toad's skipper Catalano who took the early season game away from the Muddies remained not out at drinks and not out at the end! The problem with that was he partnered with his bowler "West" (6 off 34) for a 54 run partnership and continued himself with 61 off 60 balls and built their total to a more defendable 99, Postans (2/11) chiming in again to wrap up the tail with Barnes (2/14).

Muddies rested Darlington from opening the innings as he had kept wicket in the oppressive conditions, although he found himself batting anyway when Driver (0) and Doble (3) went quickly and cheaply. Taylor was adjudicated caught off a delivery thought to be above waist height, Muddies 3/19 as Postans joined Darlington.

Darlington seemed a little slower than normal but with Toads delivering some 19 wides in the innings some of his opportunity was lost as he and player of the day Postans amassed a strong 54 run partnership when Darlington was typically caught going for the big runs on 32. Porter had his first chance as his team mates eagerly awaited to see if he could complete the trifecta of superb bowling, fielding and batting, effective with 12no off 11 as Postans (32no) finished off the total with 3 boundaries in 4 balls, Muddies home with 4/101.

Down to Crathern Park to play Barron River this week, following the season's earlier encounter that was never finished due to vandalisation of the Mud Pit pitch covers.
