Port Douglas Community Services Centre will hold their Christmas Spirit Appeal outside Coles Port Douglas on Sunday.

The appeal, which will be held between 10am and 2pm, will raise funds for disadvantaged locals.

The team will be hosting a huge sausage sizzle as well as offering the chance to win some great raffle prizes on the day.

All the funds raised from the day will be used to purchase food from Coles that will be distributed to people that have been through the Centre’s Emergency Relief Program.

The food will be distributed via hampers that will help everyone in the community have a  very merry Christmas.

Melanie Boon from the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre said the fundraiser would provide ‘a little bit extra on table this Christmas’.

“This is locals helping locals,” Ms Boon said.

“All the money raised will go straight back into the community.

“Also inside of Coles there is a place that you can donate gifts or non-perishable foods."

This is the third year in a row that the Centre will be holding this event and they are hoping to raise $1500 this year after raising $1100 last year.
