Douglas Shire Council has unveiled new welcome signs on the boundaries of the shire showcasing the area's unique natural features.

The three-metre-wide signs feature the slogan “Where the Rainforest Meets the Reef” with an iconic image of Cape Tribulation welcoming visitors to the Douglas Shire.

The new signs have been unveiled on the Douglas Shire boundaries at the bottom of the Rex Range in Cassowary and near the overtaking lane just north of Ellis Beach, with a third sign at the Bloomfield Bridge at Wujal Wujal to be installed next week.

Unveiling the Rex Range sign on Wednesday morning, Mayor Julia Leu said Council was proud to identify the official boundaries of the Douglas Shire and highlight the natural beauty of the region.

“The Douglas Shire is the only place in the world where two World Heritage-listed natural environments meet so it is only fitting we showcase this when welcoming visitors,” Mayor Leu said.
