A Mackay Sugar cane train has derailed in Mossman on approach to the town's mill.

A large amount of cut cane was dumped outside a Mill Street residence when three bins of the train derailed at about 4:30pm on Thursday.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Witnesses reported seeing the train come to a stop outside the mill then derail immediately with a large crashing noise immediately upon moving again.

This is the second derailment of a Mossman Mill train in recent weeks.

A train heading toward the mill across the South Mossman River Rail bridge derailed on July 22, with seven bins coming off the tracks.

No-one was injured in that incident either.

Several other incidents have caused stoppages at Mossman Mill since the start of the season.
