FNQ event cancellations and closures

Several events across far north Queensland will be cancelled due to Tropical Cyclone Ita.

Cairns Civic Theatre

Beatle Magic (Saturday 12th April) has been postponed until further notice.

Suzanne Vega (Sunday 13th April) has been postponed til Wednesday 16 April

All patrons who have purchased tickets will be notified directly by TicketLiNK next week.

Basketball Queensland

Basketball Queensland has cancelled the 2014 Under 14 Boys Junior State Championships in Cairns. 

Lockhart River

The launch of the ‘Lockhart River Love’ hip hop video which was scheduled to take place in Lockhart River on April 16 has been cancelled due to Cyclone Ita.

QRL match cancelled

Due to the impending arrival of Tropical Cyclone Ita to Far North Queensland, Queensland Rugby League, Northern Pride and Easts Tigers have made a joint decision to postpone Pride’s Round 7 Intrust Super Cup home game with Easts at Barlow Park, Cairns, which was scheduled for this Saturday evening, April 12.

The game has now been rescheduled to be played on Sunday 6 July.

All tickets already sold for this weekend’s game are still valid for the rearranged fixture in July.

Any existing ticketholders who would like a refund should contact the Sea Swift Northern Pride office on (07) 4046 0500.

Court houses

Mossman and Cooktown court houses are closed on Friday. 

FNQ Premier League

Round three of the FNQ Premier League and all scheduled soccer games this weekend have been cancelled. The matches will be played later in the season. 

AFL Cairns

AFL Cairns have made the decision to cancel all Round 3 AFL Cairns matches (Seniors & Reserves) due to Tropical Cyclone Ita and the uncertainty of where it will track and over what time frame. 

The matches were scheduled to be played on Saturday 12 April 2014. 

James Cook University

James Cook University’s Cairns campus will be closed on Friday 11th April due to Tropical Cyclone Ita.

The campus may re-open on Saturday 12th April, and staff and students will be advised once a decision is made.

Holloways Beach Markets scheduled for Sunday is cancelled. 

Bramston Beach and Fitzroy Island campgrounds are closed.

All Cairn Regional Council waste transfer stations will be closed from 4pm on Friday until further notice.   

Cairns Esplanade Lagoon will be closed from 3pm today until further notice.
