Far north Queensland police have charged a Mt Isa man for allegedly driving 179 kilometres per hour under the influence of alcohol in a 100 kilometre per hour zone.
Authorities allege the 43-year old man was driving a four-wheel-drive towing a boat last Friday night along the Karumba Development Road.
It will further be alleged when attempting to stop for police, the driver lost control, causing the boat and trailer to veer onto the opposite side of the road, forcing two police officers to take evasive action.
No one, including the two male passengers in the vehicle, was injured during the incident.
The man has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and is due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on May 5.
Nomanton Police Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Duane Amos said it was always disappointing to see drivers compromising the safety of others on the road, particularly during school holidays.
"We are urging anyone who gets behind the wheel of a vehicle to consider the devastating consequences speeding and drink driving can cause to themselves, their passengers and anyone else out on the road during this busy Easter period," Senior Sergeant Amos said.
