The Cairns Taipans' roster is nearing completion with the club announcing promising young guard Shaun Bruce will remain a Snake for the 2014/15 season.

Bruce, 23, played 21 games this season, having joined the Taipans as a development player in 2012.

Taipans head coach Aaron Fearne said Bruce's work ethic had earned him another contract with the team.

"Shaun's number-one strength is his professionalism," Fearne said.

"He knows our scouting reports inside out, and spends a lot of time understanding and putting them into action on the training court.

"He plays with toughness and physicality, he competes on every play and really trained well for us every week."

The Taipans have signed seven players already this offseason with two imports and an Australian still to be recruited.

One player who is unlikely to join Bruce in the backcourt is star guard Jamar Wilson.

Sources said Wilson has expressed a desire to play in Europe next year.

Bruce will play in the QBL this offseason with the Cairns Marlins, having captained the Ballarat Miners in the SEABL competition last year.

The 192-centimetre guard said he was excited to return alongside many familiar faces from last year’s roster.

"I think with our core group sticking around we have a chance to really do something in the coming years," Bruce said.

"Cairns was the team that gave me a chance in first place. I feel like I belong here and I want to stay here as long as I can."
