Witnesses sought to Smithfield traffic crash

Cairns Forensic Crash Unit investigators are seeking witnesses to the two vehicle traffic crash on the Captain Cook Highway at Smithfield on Friday morning.

Around 9.15am, two contractors were working on a damaged light pole on the southern side of the Smithfield roundabout when a ute left the road and hit their parked vehicle. The crash caused the contractors' car to crash into both men working on the light pole. A 40-year-old Stratford man and another aged 49 from Palm Cove sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The 35-year-old male driver of the ute sustained minor injuries. All three were taken to the Cairns Base Hospital for treatment.
