Two men injured in Smithfield crash
Two men are injured but alive after a serious multi-vehicle accident at Smithfield this morning, according to Senior Constable Russ Parker of the Cairns Police.
Snr Constable Parker said the two injured men are contractors, who were working earlier today to repair a faulty lightpole near the roundabout.
A 35-year old motorist lost control of his car and collided with the contractors' ute, which was parked on the side of the road.
One contractor, a 40 year-old Stratford man, is in a serious but stable condition after suffering pelvic injuries. The other, a 49 year-old Palm Cove man, sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Cairns Forensic Crash Unit and Workcover are investigating the incident. Traffic was down to one lane at the scene, but is now clear.
