The 2013 Port Douglas Yacht Club’s Coral Sea Cup was contested last weekend, with Saturday featuring a passage race from Port Douglas around Low Isles to Snapper Island.  

The light winds hindered many, however Doug Ryan on Shazam, fresh from competing at Hamilton Island and Magnetic Island race weeks, took the lead early and was never headed.

Ann Sea and Port FM Mais Oui crossed for the minor places. The conditions did suit the smaller boats however, with Port FM Mais Oui coming in first on handicap.On Sunday the conditions were similar for two buoy races. 

Again, Shazam, Ann Sea and Port FM Mais Oui were the first three across the line in each race,  however on handicap Ruff Red collected two firsts.

Overall, Ruff Red was the winner with four points, only one point ahead of Port FM’s Mais Oui and newly returned, Island Girl, in third place.

Racing continues this weekend with races one and two of the spring series of the PDYC club championship.
