Thinking caps on for Low Isles fundraiser

K-Star's monthly Charity Trivia is on again at Central Hotel tomorrow night, with all proceeds going towards Douglas-based conservation group, the Low Isles Preservation Society (LIPS).

LIPS, dedicated to the protection and preservation of Far North Queensland's marine, coastal and rainforest environments, spefically the Low Isles, an inner patch of reef 15km north-east of Port Douglas.

LIPS Treasurer Bruce Wynn said the money raised from tomorrow evening's event would go towards establishing a museum and interpretive facility, to be housed in existing buildings."

"It will be used to tell people the story and history of Low Isles, and why it's important to the region," Mr Wynn said.

"I think that anybody that lives here recognises what a treasure we have in our backyard, and whatever we can raise helps make sure Low Isles is looked after."

"This Wednesdays Charity K-Star Trivia will be the sixth time the Central Hotel have hosted these monthly events," said Quizmaster Kevin 'K-Star' Eldridge.

"The pub donates $500 each time to a local organisation, and this week it's LIPS' turn. Money is also raised from participants' $10 entry fee, with each Trivia player receiving a door prize ticket - a valuable gift donated by local business supporters of LIPS," K-Star said.

"Combined with the sale of raffle tickets on the night, LIPS can match the  amounts other community groups have raised at these Charity Trivia events, ranging from $2000-$2500.

"The picture round will reflect an island theme, and some of the questions throughout the night will be brainteasers relating to maritime subjects. The music round will be songs about the sea.

Regular K-Star Trivia prize sponsors have donated goodies for the winning teams, and LIPS have tons of great prizes also donated by local businesses.

Registration begins at 6.30pm at the Central on Wednesday, September 18, with and the family-friendly fun from 7pm until 9.45pm. Teams can be from one to 10 people.

"Another excellent turnout is expected," K-Star said. "It's a great chance for people to enjoy some mid-week entertainment in a great venue, and all for a good cause."
