Douglas COC: Economic Development Group
The five man Douglas Chamber Economic Development Group today announced the release of the Douglas 2013- Economic Strategy Report
DEDG Chairman, Martin Tranter, confirmed that the Group has been meeting each week over the last several months, with the intent of providing to the New Douglas Shire Council and any intended elected representatives, with a researched balanced understanding of the state of the 2013 Douglas Economy.
The focus of the Group was sharpened, with the re-discovery of the 1998 Douglas Shire Tourism Strategy Plan, which formed the basis for providing a new Douglas Specific Economic Strategy Report. The Report identifies the existing economic indices and benchmarks relating to the Douglas Strategy and Performance over the last 15 years against other regional competitors. It encompasses both the Cane and Tourism industries.
The Group believes this new initiative will create an opportunity to unite the various Stakeholders, as well as the wider Community, by exposing the key Regional challenges together with a range of solutions, for further discussion during the next few months.
The Report is intended to be a White Paper Report which is regularly updated by Council, Business and Business Organizations in the future.
Mr Tranter confirmed the Group will present a Summary of the Key Factors associated with the Regional Economic Strategy Review at the forthcoming Douglas Chamber AGM on Tuesday September 24 2013.
