Mossman gymnasts represent at comp

On the weekend of September 7-8, 123 Gymnasts from Atherton, Barron Valley, Southside Cairns, Mareeba, Mossman and Townsville converged on Barron Valley to compete in the MACCA Team Challenge.

Three teams represented the Mossman & District Gymnastics Club, competing in Levels 1 and 3 of the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics event.

Barron Valley Gymnastics Club in Cairns is renowned as being a hotspot for representing gymnasts as State champions, and even training gymnasts to attend comps on the National level. The Team Challenge involved individual teams working together for a combined score to beat the other teams’ totals, with the goal of attaining a trophy in 1st, 2nd or 3rd placings for proud display at their respective clubs.

On the Saturday, WAG Level 3 saw 11 teams compete with a total of 50 Gymnasts. Mossman & District Gymnastics Club had 4 of its Level 3 girls as a team. Tali Hoye, Della Miller, Jorja Harvey & Paulina Bernhardi excelled up against such tough competition receiving 2nd on Beam and 4th on Floor, ranking 6th overall out of the 11 teams.

On The Sunday WAG level 1 saw 8 teams compete with a total of 37 Gymnasts. The Mossman & District Gymnastics Club had 2 teams in Level 1  (Gold Team) - Laura Lee, Piper Leo, Lena Schmidt, Jaymi Burcombe, Ruby Colbridge & Saffiya Gonsalves.  (Green Team) - Rosa Johnson, Charlotte Henderson, Remy Leo, Alyssa Heise & Charli Feben.

WAG Level 1 (Gold Team) did very well in all levels, but best of all bringing home 3rd on the Beam. Mossman Gold Team was our youngest team aged 5 yrs and above all competing for the first time.

WAG Level 1 (Green Team) had their hard work in training pay off, proudly receiving 1st on Vault, 2nd on Bars, 2nd on Beam and 1st on Floor. They ranked 1st overall in Level 1. A great accomplishment was for Charlotte Henderson on a personal level scoring 55.25 placing 1st and Alyssa Heise with 54 points, placing 2nd out of 37 Gymnasts.

Our girls were well rewarded for their efforts, along with their families and coaches, doing Mossman & Districts Proud.

MDGC have some of their WAG Level 3 girls preparing to travel to Townsville to compete in the 2013 Tropical Townsville Invitational on the 18th October, while other ones are training hard to move up to the next Level and have their first Level 4 experience in the Tablelands Christmas Invitational scheduled for the 16th and 17th of November held in Atherton for WAG and Mareeba for MAG.

On Friday the 13th September the Gymnastics club put on a Freaky Friday Fundraiser to raise much needed funds towards their own building. Parents and kids alike were dressed to impress & freak each other out enjoying a fun night with games, music, dancing and catching up. Thank-you to the families that came and joined in the fun. A huge thank-you goes to the local businesses that supported the club with prizes, time and equipment. It couldn’t have been done without you.

Nicky G’s Mobile Disco, Malone’s Butchery, Port Party Hire, Mojo’s and Sugars Restaurants, Mandalay Resort, Sheraton Mirage, QT Resort, Ramada Resort, Portico  Pizza, The Central Hotel, Divine Beauty, Hartley’s Creek Crocodile Farm, The Habitat, Bruce Belcher’s Daintree River Cruise, Costume Addict, Macrossan St Pharmacy and Richard Lavender donated some props from Haunting of Oak Beach.
