Sugar Sonic to sound out sessions

The final Courtyard Music event for 2013 will be on Sunday, October 6 with an exciting act to see the year out.

Sugar Sonic is a collaboration between Steve Roberts on keyboards and Allison Mackey on vocals and is described as a slice of soul with a twist of funk.Allison Mackey still performs with Cairns Latin rock/funk band Humidity and has performed locally supporting other visual artists, musicians and poets and also overseas, travelling and performing Peking opera in China and in Latin salsa band Chango locally and in South America. Allison's love lies in Bossa Nova, jazz, Fado and soul, singing in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Italian dialects. Allison has written poetry and songs from an early age.Steve Roberts contributes keyboards, vocals and song writing to Sugar Sonic and has a long background as a producer of original music. Since swapping the grey skies of the UK for tropical Cairns in the late 90’s, Steve has performed with dance/funk act, Sugar Lounge. In previous times, Steve played keyboards with Abigail’s Party and Funkee Junkees in London.Drawing influence from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai, Bassment Jaxx and Groove Armada, Steve’s original material blends old school funk with modern break beats. Steve and Allison met whilst both performing with Humidity. The collaboration of the two in Sugar Sonic has produced a sensual, powerful electric soul/funk sound.Bar opens at 5pm; show starts at 5.30pm and should be finished around 7:30pm so still in time for dinner. We recommend that people bring cushions to sit on in the unique covered outdoor amphitheatre-style venue.
