Dragons 2013 season wrap up
Douglas United Football Club’s season wrapped up at the weekend with the annual presentation night held at the Court House Hotel on Saturday.
It was a good way to end a successful season and to celebrate the individual performances and achievements from the year.
Neil Burcombe cleaned up in Division Two awards, winning both Coaches Player of the Year and Players Player of the Year, while Lewis Butterss was similarly successful in the Reserve grade winning Coaches Player and Players Player of the Year.
Danny Ferrero claimed the Best and Fairest in the Reserve Grade.
In the Premier Grade, Ian Marsh won the Best and Fairest award for the second year in a row, while Jamie Gosling won the Coaches Player of the Year.
The prestigious Players Player of the Year award was very closely run with only a couple of votes in it, but Ollie Moffat came out on top to deservedly claim the award.
The Club awards saw Jamie Gosling win the Golden Boot award for being the Club’s top goal scorer with Lewis Butterss winning the Most Improved Player award to complete a hat trick of awards on the night.
Neil Burcombe also made it a three-peat by picking up the Clubman of the Year award for his dedication and hard work throughout the year. The final award of the night was the overall Club Player of the Year, which was shared by the two outstanding players of the season, Jamie Gosling and Ollie Moffat.
The previous night saw the Zone Awards held in Cairns and once again the club was very well represented. Christian Mackintosh won Goalkeeper of the Year while Jamie Gosling again won the Golden Boot and was also crowned the Premier Mens Player of the Year which is a fantastic achievement and a deserved reward for an outstanding season. It is also worth noting the Yuttana Taotong came within one point of winning the Reserve Grade Player of the Year.
Douglas United Football Club would like to thank everyone for the support throughout the year in what has been another outstanding season. Special thanks must go to the Court House Hotel, Nathan Verri and Becky Nelson and the team at Blood Orange for providing the major sponsorship for the season.
Finally, Douglas United is re-launching its summer six aside competition starting tonight from 6pm at Cassowary Park, Mossman.
The first two weeks will be social evenings as a way to sort out some teams for competitions starting October 17. Either get yourselves a team sorted and ready to go, or come out on your own and we will find a team for you.
