Jetstar to fly its Boeing 787 to Cairns
Tourist numbers are set to increase further with Jetstar announcing its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner will fly into Cairns and the Gold Coast from Melbourne.
Jetstar took delivery of the aircraft this week in Seattle during an official handover ceremony at Boeing’s Everett plant, attended by Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce and Jetstar Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka.
The game-changing aircraft is the first of 14 Dreamliners destined for Jetstar’s international fleet and provides a step change in efficiency and customer experience.
The arrival of Boeing 787 into Cairns will no doubt continue growth for the airline and the local tourism industry. Each aircraft will carry 335 customers, featuring a 21 passenger business class cabin and 314 seats in economy. Key features include inflight entertainment in every seat, larger windows, better cabin atmosphere to reduce jetlag and technology to minimise turbulence.
“Jetstar revolutionised long haul low fares travel and today that continues with the introduction of the 787, an aircraft that burns 20 per cent less fuel and gives passengers a more comfortable flying experience,” Mr Joyce said.
Domestic services for Jetstar’s first 787 flights will be on sale for travel from Wednesday, November 13.
The announcement comes after Cathay Pacific’s announcement last week that the Hong Kong based airline would increase its direct flight services between Hong Kong and Cairns.
