Taipans drop double digit lead

The Taipans had a 10 point lead against Adelaide on Friday night but something didn’t seem right.

The game was televised on ONE HD (Yippee) and I sat there knowing that the win wasn’t in the bag yet.

The 36ers now have a championship winning coach in Joey Wright and even though the squad is similar to last year, this guy can actually coach.

Adelaide, for the past three seasons, have totally under-achieved and buckled under pressure, but Joey is one of those guys that expects effort and the crew based in the city of churches were always going to make a run.

It was quite disappointing that we didn’t have the mental toughness to ride out the comeback and get the win but who wants to be peaking now right?

The absence of in-form swing man and Australian Boomer aspirant Cam Gliddon to a back injury before the game didn’t help the cause, but the loss would have put a bad taste in coach Fearney’s mouth, as you should never blow a double digit lead in the fourth quarter.

There were some interesting combinations on the floor at crucial times as well (always questionable when it doesn’t work) and I wasn’t happy with some body language from notorious ‘sooks’ – I won’t name names yet.

The best thing about sport is there’s always next week and Saturday night the Melbourne Tigers come to town. Unlike us they took care of business against Adelaide and a win in this one becomes crucial!

Dropping two in a row at home would not be what the doctor ordered and let’s see if this squad have some tough mettle to get it done or point fingers at each other and trip up over their bottom lips!

Round 4 tips:

NZ vs Adelaide. Tough road schedule for 36ers & NZ already have cut an import. Adelaide by 7

TV vs Sydney. Kings squad not gelling and look soft when the game is on the line. TV by 5.

Perth vs Wollongong. Jimmy Ennis a star. Wildcats by 12.

Cairns vs Melbourne. Cairns by 3 if Gliddon plays.

Adelaide vs Sydney. Adelaide finally back at home should get this one by 12.

Wollongong vs NZ. Sorry NZ but question marks and doubt will start to appear in your new coach. Gong by 8.
