Cairns Regional Council Division 10 Councillor, Julia Leu, has admitted to being charged with a drink driving offence earlier this month.

Cr Leu, who is also running as a mayoral candidate in the upcoming Douglas Shire Council local government elections on November 9, said she took full responsibility for the incident, which allegedly happened north of Mossman on October 4.

“I have been charged with a traffic offence of a low level alcohol reading of 0.071 and there are no other charges,” Cr Leu said in a statement.

“I accept without reservation that I have done the wrong thing and will of course accept, without dispute, the consequences that will be imposed by the court.

“I sincerely apologise for my lapse of judgement after 38 years of driving with a clean record.”

She is expected to appear in Mossman Magistrates Court on November 6.
