And they’re off…voting has started

Pre-poll voting has started ahead of the Douglas Shire Council local government election on November 9.

Forty-two voters turned out to Port Douglas Community Centre on Monday to get an early say on whom they wanted to see elected to the new council, and volunteers reported voting was steady on Tuesday morning.

A total of 7045 voters are registered to vote for one mayor and four councillors to form the new Council, which will not have internal divisional boundaries.

Voters are asked on two separate ballot papers to vote number one on the mayoral candidate they wish to elect, and vote from one to four on their preferred councillors.

Pre-poll voting is open at Port Douglas Community Centre, Mowbray Street, Port Douglas, and the former Centrelink building, 3-7 Mill Street, Mossman, from now until 6pm Friday, November 8.
