Junior snakes kick off futsal season

The Junior futsal season kicked off on Tuesday night, with the Port Auto Car Wash Pythons (Under 11s) and Port Auto Car Wash Vipers (Under 12s) representing Douglas at the Redlynch Indoor Stadium.

It was a fast and furious Under 11s game. The Pythons, with no substitutes to call off the bench, matched up against the Cobras, a strong team of representative players, including three substitutes.

The Pythons went down 3-1 at half time. Though they controlled most of the possession, it was not their night, with attempts at goal hitting the crossbar and post several times, and player numbers forcing rotation as goalkeeper.

Though tiring after the halftime break, the Pythons they came out strong in the second half, and pulled the game back to a 3-3 draw. Port battled all the way to the final buzzer, and though the Pythons were awarded a free kick, the referee denied it and ended the game.

A couple of Pythons turned Vipers in the second game, joining the Under 12s against One Touch, last season's runner-up. As in the younger grade, Port's opposition had a number of representative players on their team card. The Vipers had a sluggish start, and though they battled hard, were down 2-6 at half time. The Vipers refused to give up, but some errors at the back went against them. Port finished 4-8.
