Youth suicide, aged care top forum issues

The establishment of a local youth suicide intervention program, an aged care facility in Mossman and the expansion of the Multipurpose Health Facility were items high on the agenda in Mossman last week at a meeting.

Bendigo Bank, through its partnership with Cairns Community Enterprise, held a community forum on Thursday to discuss future community projects that would benefit Douglas Shire communities.

Cairns Community Enterprise chairman, Stephen Devenish, said the board, his staff and branch staff of Mossman’s Bendigo Bank branch were excited by the ideas raised at the forum.

“The board will work towards some of the projects discussed and liaise with other stakeholders to gather information for the larger projects,” Mr Devenish said.

Cairns Community Enterprise, through its grant and community income stream program also used the evening to distribute close to $11,000 to local community groups in the Douglas Shire.

Currently across Cairns and the Douglas Shire the Cairns Community Enterprise through its partnership has invested over $453,000 back into the local community.

“The board would like to thank everyone for attending the forum and providing the Cairns Community Enterprise and Bendigo Bank branches with direction on how to allocate future project funding,” Mr Devenish said.
