U12s look ahead after loss to Mareeba
DAMIEN DARLINGTON
Making the trek to Mareeba the U12 Muddies found themselves on the backfoot when only able to field 9 players which included a Mareeba substitute.
Captain Ryan Stanaway won the toss with a double headed coin which landed vertical in the grass and sent the opposition in to bat in the overcast conditions.
Luke Twoomy (0/10) and Vincent Killeen bowled great line and length keeping the home team to a minimum after 4 overs. First change bowlers Stanaway (1/16) and Conner White (1/10) took advantage of the applied pressure both breaking through in their second overs.
The Muddies were unable to grasp some difficult catches and remained wicketless through a ten over period till Scotty Cooper (1/26) utilised a ball on the pitch clean bowling what was to be the last wicket the boys took for the day in the 19th over.
The 65 wides bolstered the opposition's score to 3/133 after their 27 allocated overs. Our juniors were keen to make inroads opening with Om Patel (Mareeba sub) who was quickly dismissed in the first over while the ''Rock'' Cooper searches for last seasons form was removed in the second.
Killeen again top scored for the team taking 13 from 24 only dismissed to an outstanding one handed catch by the wicketkeeper. The ever confident Lachie Dowling stood before a more experienced bowler twice his height thanks to sheep station approch from the Mareeba coach.
However, Dowling wasn't intimidated belting his first delivery only just falling inside the boundy for his 1st run for the club. When Dowling fell Bailey Elliot made great support for the technical correct Luke Twoomey until he wasn't able to fend off a superb delivery.
Twoomey tried to hit the Muddies to a more respectable score but was caught at square leg to another great catch leaving the Muddies all out 8/40.
The boys will be keen to make amends and welcome back some players next weekend when the face Atherton at the Mud pit.
