Hairy month almost over for Mo Bros

Douglas' Mo Bros and Mo Sistas can soon celebrate the end of a hairy month, with tomorrow the last day of Movember's month-long moustache-growing fundraiser.

The annual campaign started in Australia in 2003, and aims to raise awareness of and funds for prostate and testicular cancer, and men's mental health. The campaign now boasts more than three million participants worldwide, with $443 million raised over the past ten years.

Locally, a number of lads have been proudly growing and showing 'tache-tastic upper lip masterpieces (or commendable attempts).

Among them is QT Resort Port Douglas' General Manager, Steve Oakley, captain of Team QT.

"We’ve raised $930 so far, only $70 off our target of $1000," said QT's PR and Events Coordinator, Emily Byrne.

"Steve is on top of the donations leaderboard, and I'm a very close second - I only need another $70 to beat the boss at his own game!"

Ms Byrne said QT is gearing up for some hairy good fun this evening to close the month, with a Movember Party featuring $10 Margaritas courtesy of Patron Tequila, and $5 Super Dry tap beers.

"Our chefs will be manning the grill and putting on the Ultimate Dude Food BBQ, with steak sambos, chicken wings and Smoky BBQ and Honey Soy Chicken Skewers for just $10 each," she said.

"Plus, DJ Brenton has styled his facial hair especially for tonight and is looking forward to playing some smooth tunes as everyone pitches in for one last fundraising drive before the month ends.

"Our bar staff will act as the team of independent judges who will declare one lucky bloke the wearer/grower/owner of the “Best Mo”, and he’ll receive a  lovely man-facial voucher from spaQ to sooth his face post-shave!"

Movember co-founder Adam Garone was recently named one of GQ Australia's Men of the Year.
