The who’s who of the Douglas Shire put their fashionable feet forward on Friday night, with a black tie crowd of just under 200 recognising excellence in local business at the fourth annual Douglas Business Awards ceremony.
The gala event, hosted by Newsport Publishing at Sheraton Mirage’s Glade Pavilion, rewarded the best of the best in 44 customer-voted categories, and six special categories judged by industry groups including the Douglas Chamber of Commerce, the Cairns Chamber of Commerce, Newsport Publishing, and PORT DOUGLAS Magazine.
Douglas Shire Council Mayor-elect Julia Leu joined category finalists from sectors including tourism, accommodation, hospitality, arts, and trades and professional services.
Table 20 took out the song competition, which required correct identification of each song title and artist that played as award winners walked to the stage.
Among the crowd-judged Best Dressed finalists, Junction Café’s Bryce Madgwick won for the lads, with his combination of red suspenders and a straw trilby. For the women, Harrison’s and Buccini’s Reina Patrick was voted best, with an on-trend animal print tank and lust-have high-waisted pants, reminiscent of stylish jodhpurs.
“I’d like to thank our sponsors, particularly Staging Connections, Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas, Wine Divas (TeAro Estate’s ‘Joker’s Grin’), and PORT DOUGLAS Magazine,” said Newsport Publishing’s Managing Director, Sam Cullen.
