Douglas’ Aussie Day awards open

Know someone who is worthy of Australia Day honours? Now is your chance to honour them, but you need to get submissions into the new Douglas Shire Council by December 9.

Douglas Shire residents and organisations are asked to nominate Citizen of the Year, Junior Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year to be awarded during Australia Day celebrations on Sunday, January 26 at Port Douglas Community Hall, Mowbray Street.

Nominees must be an Australian citizen, a resident of the Douglas Shire and aged 18 years and over for the Citizen and Volunteer awards, and 17 years and younger for the Junior Citizen award.

It may be someone you work with, your sports club mentor, a member of the community you look up to or an outstanding achiever who you may think is worthy of reward on Australia’s day of celebration.

To nominate a valued member of the community, email the Douglas Shire Australia Day Committee at ceounit@douglas.qld.gov.au  or download nomination form here by Monday, December 9.
