Niramaya’s Rasa gives VIPs a tasty treat

Port Douglas’ 5-star Niramaya Resort launched new restaurant Rasa on November 8, treating over 70 VIP local guests and dignitaries to a seven-course degustation ahead of its official launch last week.

Rasa lived up to its name - broadly translated in Indonesian as ‘taste, sense, feeling and flavour’ – with three desserts and each of the seven courses complemented by top wines.

The Newsport’s Roy Weavers named the Beef Carpaccio and Lamb Loin as the evening’s highlights, enjoying both with Philip Shaw’s ‘The Wirewalker’ Pinot Noir.

“Three energetic professionals make up Rasa’s management team -  Andrew Saville, Jared Jones and Louise St George,” Mr Weavers explained.

“Using their extensive experience in all areas of hospitality -  from the kitchen and customer service, to function and event management – the trio are working together to create a uniquely different type of dining experience. Everyone will feel welcome at Rasa, including Niramaya guests, visitors to the region, and local residents.”

“We are moving away from traditional dining courses towards Tapas style dishes to share, complimented with our excellent wine list and by popular cocktails with a twist,” said Mr Seville.

“Head Chef Jared Jones put on a fascinating demonstration to prepare the smoked watermelon and jasmine granita dessert, which kept the audience spellbound and delivered a taste that didn't disappoint either,” Mr Weavers said.

Rasa Restaurant and Lounge is now open to locals and visitors for all day lounge menu and bar from 11-5pm, and for dinner from 6-9pm.

"The team says their vision is to provide a refined and exciting dining experience, inspired by flavours of Thailand, Bali, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, China and Japan, and with a high focus on regional and local produce where ever possible," Mr Weavers said.

"The menu looks as intriguing as the new name. This sophisticated venue, with its welcoming bar and lounge area, has created a whole new atmosphere to complement this stylish resort," he said.
