A Cairns-based tourism operator has been assured a Labor Government-promised funding boost will go ahead, despite the LNP's apparent decision not to honour grants approved by the previous government. 

Down Under Tours was among seven businesses to win funding earlier this year under the Federal Government’s highly competitive Tourism Quality (TQUAL) Grants scheme, which is designed to leverage investment in high-quality tourism projects and create jobs.

The previously approved grants, budgeted for in the 2013-14 Budget, were worth as much as $110,000 each and offered to tourism operators on a dollar-for-dollar basis after a competitive tender process.

In a statement, Labor MP Anthony Albanese said Trade and Investment Minister Andrew Robb last week confirmed the government would not honour the grants unless contracts had been finalised between the recipients and the government.

However, Down Under Tours have been advised that the LNP will honour grants.

"We are of course delighted to hear the news as we had already instigated various things in the lead up to do the work," said James Dixon, Director of Sales and Marketing, Down Under Tours.

• Kurrimine Beach Holiday Park ($106,400)
• Rainforestation Nature Park, Kuranda ($110,000)
• Fletcher’s Holiday Park, Atherton ($79,350)
• Savannah Guides Limited, Cairns ($66,000)
• Down Under Tours (Australia) Pty Ltd, Cairns ($110,000)
• Holiday Inn Cairns ( $110,000)
