Under 14 Crocs back on track

UNDER 8

Another away game for the mighty Port Douglas Crocs Under 8s saw eight fit and firing athletes battle it out against the Cairns City Lions on Sunday.

Playing deep in the forward pocket young Taj Uwland was dominant early with some fine leads deep out of the forward line, with Jetson Parry bobbing up and causing a few headaches for the Loins' defence.

On one leg and showing a heap of courage was little crunch Kalan Poole who played his heart out and showed signs of frustration after watching another Crows defeat the night before.

Carlton’s great form lately has inspired Ethan Scott, who produced some telling marks and a fine goal.

In the middle big, bad Jonte Revell played his best game of the year with some thumping kicks deep into the forward line, and the quick foot work of Jai Stapleton (just like his mum on the dance floor) kept the large crowd entertained.

Gus Gaske was outstanding all game with many courageous acts and his team work to involve other players was a highlight. Zippy rover Hayden Caswell may have found a new position down back; he was in and under everything and played a great game.

Coach’s awards went to Gus, Hayden, Jonte and Kalan.

UNDER 10

The Under 10’s Crocs hit the Holloways Beach field running against the Cutters in their first clash for the year.

The young Crocs didn’t know what they were in for as the majority of the Cutters' team were the size of 12 year olds. Even playing against a taller opposition the Crocs were first to the ball at most times, and with quick handballs, they were into the forward line quickly on several occasions.

When down forward, the Crocs were very accurate scoring six majors for the day and only two minors which weren’t far off goals. Young gun Scotty Cooper got a bag full of goals for the day, with Daniel and Kye scoring a major each for their efforts.

Player of the day went to the “Snake” Slade Roberts showing great courage in the backline, resulting in stopping the opposition from scoring on a few separate occasions.

Macca’s awards went to Sam Wall and Nash Thompson. Also an extra award this week being a Macca’s footy going to a well-deserved Hayden Caswell. Stepping up from the Under 8s to help out, his great speed and skills were shown throughout the game.

UNDER 14

This week the Under 14 Crocs were determined to make amends for last week's not so great game, and every member of the team stood up and played to the best of their abilities to run out very convincing winners over the Lions.

Finn Cameron dominated the centre bounces and gave first use of the ball to our onballers time and time again. Angus Dickson was everywhere contesting on the ground, in the air, and setting up many attacking raids with accurate passes to space as well as kicking several goals.

Tom Goodall also dominated around the ground and took a stack of strong marks in defence. Drew Bayne and Fraser Allen on the wings were finding plenty of ball and continually fed the half forward line where Tully Cartwright was the focal point. He didn't let them down taking contested overhead marks then finishing with some long goals.

Our back six need to be commended on their efforts as they only conceded six points all game. With tight and committed play they were able to cut off the Lions and run the ball straight back into our attack. One raid forward saw Sean Evans run off the half back line and kick a nice goal.

Charlie Burns and Corey Taite changed well on the ball and were dangerous around goals and hard ball getters in the middle. Nathen Pidgeon gets better each week, is playing his best footy ever, and played with a great never-say-die attitude.

It is great to see a few more people getting along to watch the boys play as they are playing some good team football and certainly enjoy the support.
