Take the challenge
It's that time of the month when Joe Public gets to cast judgement on some of the finest photographers in the region.
In another brutal cull, Best Photo Competition judges have delivered their shortlist of 10 finalist who will aim to claim the title for April.
Readers can also make someone's day by voting in the Most Popular Photo category. Simply choose your favourite photo, hit submit, and wait for the winners to be announced in the coming days.
Pictured: Brett Wright's 'Pamika Kitesurfing At Undine Cay' is one of the finalists for the Best Photo Competition.
Prizes in the Best Photo Competition include:
Winner: A 30cm x 46cm acrylic print valued at $130 PLUS $50 cash thanks to Imagebank Australia.
Runners Up: Receive a Sailaway Sunset Sail for two people valued at $100.
Third: A delicious Italian Cookbook and MasterChef Apron thanks to Coles Supermarket Port Douglas.
Editor's Choice: A $50 meal voucher from Seabean Cafe Restaurant.
Most Popular Photo: We'll keep this one a surprise for now.
The photos are spectacular, the entrants are talented, and the prizes are incredible (thanks to our incredible sponsors).
If you want to be part of the region's best Best Photo Competition send in your photos (up to four each month, and each with a title) to competitions@thenewsport.com.au.
This month's judge tips:
Avoid over processing in photoshop, be it saturation/contrast or sharpening. Try to keep horizon's straight unless it's a fish eye lens or trick shot.
Whilst instagram shots will be considered, they often end up in looking over-processed.
A point of difference is always appreciated. We want to be given something to think about when looking at your picture, drawn in, taken on a journey.
