Strikers strong in Junior Netball

Douglas Junior Netball started this week under cloudy conditions, and we were lucky to play all divisions before the rain started.

10 Under

The 10/Under game between the Beach Babes, in their hot pink T-Shirts, and the Young Stars started off evenly with a goal attempt each in the first quarter.

The Beach Babes in the second quarter opened the flood gates and kept the ball down their scoring end with many attempts, but great pressure by the Young Stars kept them from scoring too many goals.

Fantastic play by Georgia Crimmins and Emma Vizard for the Young Stars kept the Beach Babes from running away with the game, with great attacking by Lani Dickson and Chelsea Mckay.

Final score Beach Babes 4 def. Young Stars 1.

12 Under

The 12/Under competition on Court 1 saw the Diamonds play the Pythons and both teams were slow to start with the wind and tough defence on both sides.

Best and Fairest Charlotte Dowling and Players' Choice Kyah Francis both contributed well to a low scoring game.

Final score the Diamonds 14 def Pythons 3.

On Court 3 the Saints played Extreme, and for the Saints McKenzie Booth and Jaime Thurtell were driving forces for their team, both displaying fantastic attacking and defensive skills.

The Extreme team were exceptional in their defence with Jenna Kerswell leading the way and Carla Young excellent in attack.

Final score Saints 8 def. Extreme 2.

14-16 Years

In the 14-16 competition the Young Guns 1 team played the Hot Shots. The game was well contested by both teams, particularly in defence.

The first quarter saw both teams with 8 shots at goal. The Young Guns 1 kept to their game plan and came away with the win.  Molly Lester and Ella Dodds were stand outs for their teams.

Final score Young Guns 1 15 def. Hot Shots 4.

The Young Guns 2 team played the Strikers on court 3, and the depleted Young Guns side (due to a few of their players on school camp) rallied with new player Kourtney Briggs and put up a contest against the strong Strikers.

For the Strikers Mikaela Goodwin and Tyler Mous played well and for the Young Guns Jade Tate and Bonnie Francis stood up for their team.

Final score Strikers 29 def. Young Guns 2 4.

This weekend Douglas Junior Netball travels to Innisfail for the Fowler's Group Marlin Coast Club Carnival. There are 5 teams competing in the 11, 12, 13 & 14/Under age groups over the 2 day event.

Good luck to all the teams and thanks to our netball parents for bringing the girls to play, it will be an enjoyable weekend of netball.
