Junior Sharkies get tough

UNDER 6

The Under 6 Sharks put on another great display of footy last Saturday, defeating Ivanhoes at the Mossman Showgrounds.

The smiling assassin Marlon Bellero lead the way with awesome defence making tackle after tackle with Zavan Caleb and Zane also putting in top efforts keeping the Ivanhoes scoreless for the game.

Zavan Salam and EJ Bowen again scored some great tries off the back of some strong runs by Ryder Kyan and Kaiden.

Man of the match went to Caleb Uerata for showing great improvement in his game.

UNDER 7

The Under 7 Sharkies had tough game against a very strong Ivanhoes outfit last Saturday at he Mossman showgrounds. Garence Hinton made some great runs down the field showing his speed with Azaya Tayley and Saxon Vizard also playing well in attack.

With Ivanhoes scoring plenty of tries the whole team had plenty of tackling to do during the game and kids should be proud if their efforts trying their best against a much stronger opposition.

Tyson Mackay was man of the match for his powerful runs throughout the game.

UNDER 8

The Under 8s played another strong game this week against Ivanhoes at home.  The team was undermanned for the first half of the game and a little slow off the mark.

Eventually, the tries started to trickle in with Jack Hatfield scoring a tricky try out of dummy half to get the team going.  Wyatt Laurigan, Dakota Santarossa, Beau Paulke, David Neller (2) and Calm Solomon followed suit and added to the impressive score line of 32 – 4.

Man of the match this week goes to Calm Solomon for showing no boundaries with his ball running.  Coach’s Award is deserved by Daniel Johnson for his attention and hard work at training.  Well done, to the whole team for a great performance against a tough Ivanhoes side.

UNDER 10

The Under 10s had a strong Ivanhoes side to contend with this week at home.  Ivanhoes are one the team’s biggest rivals in the competition and the boys played some relentless footy to come away with a win of 24 – 16.

Try scoring machines on the day were Jaidyn Osborne (3) and Braxton Wienert (2).  Galiai ‘Casper’ Wallace also scored an awesome try to seal the win, earning him this week’s Man of the match.

Jaidyn Osborne was awarded the Coach’s award for listening to his Coach’s instruction at training and putting set plays into practice on game day.

Johnny Paulke’s time and effort with these boys is really paying off. Thank you also to Andrew who makes the time each week to assist Johnny at training. Your determination to shape this team is reaping rewards as the team plays some great footy.

UNDER 11

Under 11s had a tough game against the top team Ivanhoes, and they did their Coach and Club proud. Our forwards Brayden, Heath, Mason, Connor, Karnju, and Micky played it tough up the middle, with Beau Santarossa making an awesome line break which led to Nick Fairhall scoring a beautiful try on the wing.

Our two halves, Pacman and Derek, did an excellent job of directing play, with Bronson always ready to pounce on a opportunity from full back.  Norman, Zac and Tyres played with guts not backing down even though they are some of the smallest on the field.

The boys’ tackling kept them in the game with some big hits by Pacman, Derek and Connor and also Ethan Chesterfield who was playing up from Under 10s.

Even though the boys didn’t win they should hold their heads high. Top effort boys.

UNDER 12

The Under 12s again made errors late in the game to go down 18-10 to a very good Ivanhoes side.  The local boys out played them in the first half but went to sleep in periods in the second half to let Ivanhoes back into the game.

With 10 interchanges at half time the boys will take time to gel.  Man of the match went to tackling machine Lachlan Buzza and big Billy Kadwell with some great carries and bruising front line defence.

Also Scotty Bowen and BJ Davies had good games.  Coach's mention to Nick Scomazzon who was outstanding in his debut game at full back.

UNDER 13

The Under 13s showed fine form on the weekend when they drew 18 all against Ivanhoes.  The boys showed great team work and kept the communication flowing all through the game.

A great kick from Trazane Cobb-Fischer set Brennan Burford up for a brilliant try in the corner and strong running from Cody Port saw him burst through the defensive line to score.

Zac Osborne then put Cody through the posts with a swift dummy pass that fooled the opposition, and then the boys executed a training move brilliantly to pop the ball effortlessly through to Austin Tayley which resulted in another try in the corner.

The Sharks were also fearless in their defence and dominated the attacking game all through the first half with Lawson Van Rhine and Campbell Allen making their presence on the field felt.

Melekai Williams, Callum Mather, Lawson and Zac were brutal in their defence with the boys averaging 20 tackles each.  Lawson was awarded the Man of the Match for his gutsy efforts and Campbell earned this week's coaches award for his tenacity and commitment in both attack and defence.

UNDER 14

The Under 14s had a magnificent bounce back from their pasting last week to beat the Ivanhoes convincingly 36-6.

With a full side and a couple of fresh reserves, the boys were a different outfit and the confidence showed.  Man of the match and players player went to Anthony Creek.

UNDER 15

The Under 15s went into the game with a plan to unsettle a couple of the key players in the opposite side.  Daniel Dowling and Lester Port played their roles perfectly in guiding the team around the park and with good ball being fed from Tom Henley it was clear to see that Mossman was playing the better footy.

Front rowers Doug Parkes and Joshua Fasano made plenty of ground up the middle which made it easy for our centres to score tries out wide.  Aiden Trewick and Lucas Hanson played solid football with no mistakes.

Mossman got the win 28 to 20 with Man of the Match honours going to a very intimidating back rower Jack Dickson.
