U8 Crocs put on a clinic for Mother's Day
Second home game of the year saw the mighty Port Douglas under 8’s crocs put on a clinic for 12 proud mothers on Sunday Mothers day footy, against the experienced Cairns Saints outfit.
Game day captain Jonte “ Silvagni” Revell lead from the front and played a solid game, as too Ethan “Koutaoufides” Scott who had plenty of the ball before being sub off for the rest of the game with a minor buttock injury.
Down back Jetson “Incigneri” Parry was solid as a rock and the quick rebounding defensive work from Tyler “Barassi” Anderson, Oren‘Epis” and the best name in footy Jessiha “Curcio” St Pierre received plenty phase from Coach Matt Scott.
The local doctor had to be called for a cure for leather poisoning as Taj ‘Dipierdomenico” Anderson had it on a string with a fine four quarter effort. Still on one leg and hobbling around like a busy bee was Kalan “ Ricciuto” Poole and showing off his new set of wheels Jai “Martello” Stapleton again produced some trade mark foot work that kept the Saints midfield guessing.
Some fine forward pressure from Hayden “Fevola” Caswell and Luke “Camporeale” Pullman resulted in many crocs goals and the strong marking powers of Gus “Rocca” Gaske who at one stage thought we was a road traffic policeman waving arms around directing traffic had the large mothers day crowd in stitchers.
Coach’s awards went to Luke, Ethan and Tyler.Under 10s

Shorts versus giants at Crocpit
The Under 10’s Crocs were involved in a short verses giants match against the Saints at the Crocpit.
The Saints talls were able to get the easy tap out of the ruck followed by a quick kick into their forward line.
Proving very difficult for the Crocs to battle against. However with the great speed of Nash, Scotty, Jake and the courage of Sam, Gus and Aislinn the Crocs managed to battle hard throughout the match.
Plenty of teamwork and some great individual efforts put a couple of goals on the board. Big thanks again to the Under 8’s players who stood up and took on the challenge of the higher aged match.
Being speedster Hayden Caswell and new man on the field Gus Gaske who took out one of the Maccas awards. The other award went to Nash “The Dash” Thompson and player of the day went to a well deserved Sam Wall for his 4 quarter efforts.

Crocs U12s cut South Cairns down to size
A revitalised Crocs u12’s hosted South Cairns Cutters in our 2nd home game for the season. The boys started strongly with Daniel nailing a 6 pointer straight from the centre bounce.
This set the scene for the day and the boys played with their heads held high and never let the Cutters in the game.
A strong performance by Jack in the forward line kicking two goals earned him the best on ground award...well done Jack! Leon made up for his no show from last week and played well getting lots of ball and defending well.
Coach Nick was happy that the shepherding drills in training were put into practice on the day which was the main reason we were able to get so much ball down to the forward line.
The boys were also reminded about good sportsmanship and coach Nick congratulated the boys who volunteered to make up the Cutters shortfall (Chas, Harry, Cameron, Jake, Casey,) .
Tom continues to improve and had a great game showing courage over the loose ball and River was devastatingly strong in defence making the Cutters nervous when he’s around.
Also a special mention to Rueben who came off hurt but came back on in the final quarter to finish the game...gutsy effort Rueben! Overall a strong performance as a team working the ball with short kicks and handballs and we were too skilful for the Cutters.
Final score was 9.8.62 to 4.7.31. Goal scorers were Daniel (2) Riley, Jake, Ryan, Nathan & Jack. Well done Crocs!!

Playing one of the bottom sides this week it was a challenge for the boys to stay focused and not get complacent and play to their full capabilities.
To their credit, they were there to play and ran up a huge score to win by 124 points. We were able trial players in new positions and with all changes working well it will give us flexibility in the future if we have absent or injured players.
With our regular ruckman away next week Drew Bayne showed he is more than capable of filling those shoes. Hugo Walker came off half back into the centre and show plenty of versatility around the ground.
Ben Muir who kicked 5 goals in the 1st half with some classic full forward marking could have gone on to kick a swag more but in a show of team spirit sat at full back for the second half allowing some of our usual back men to have a run forward.
Dean McCarthy was very solid across the half back line and also bagged a couple of goals when he had a stint on the ball. Solomon Loomes and Jye West are playing at their best, Jye being very strong at ground level using his body well and Sol finding plenty of space on the forward flank marking strongly overhead.
Ben Sands and Joel Bowen continue to get better each week and have been contributors cable of playing in many positions. The team is playing a great brand of running football with a willingness to work hard for the desired result.
It will be a big test this week as we come up against the leaders in the comp but if they play with the same desire and commitment they have shown in previous weeks they are more than capable of getting up.
Score: Crocs 124 def Cutters 0
Goals Kickers were: Ben Muir, Charlie Burns, Fraser Allen, Dean McCarthy, Sol Loomes, Brent Davidson, Hugo Walker, Brayden Wall and Tully Cartwright
