Douglas go well at Innisfail Netball Carnival

The Fowler’s Group club netball carnival was hosted by the Innisfail Netball Association last weekend.  The event was well occupied with a brave 45 teams competing over the 2 days in 7 divisions despite the very wet conditions leading up to the weekend.

Overall the weather gods smiled upon the courts with only a few breaks due to rain with the main deluge at the presentation on Sunday.  Douglas Netball was represented by 5 teams the youngest being the Pythons coached by Jodi Hepner the girls were on fire for most of the weekend, they showed some very nice skills on court and were right up on the leader board finishing runners up.

The Wildcats coached by Eryn Harold competed in the 12/Under against some very slick opposition, many of the girls were the younger of the age group but this did not dampen their enthusiasm as they won their last game which put a smile on their faces along with the coach, well played Wildcats.

The Young Guns 1 coached by Sharon Beechey played some excellent netball, they could not get over the Radars but over the weekend beat all the other teams in their division, well done girls finishing runners up for the weekend.

The Strikers coached by Kath Baxter made their mark in the 14/Under division they were up against some very strong teams, the girls played fantastic netball using their strength and experience to full advantage, the team came away with 4 wins out of 6 rounds.

Dynamite coached by Cassandra Hill competed in Division 3 the first time the team has competed outside of the juniors age groups in the largest division for the weekend with 10 teams competing the team played 9 games and won 6 overall in a fantastic effort against some very strong opposition, well played!

Kyah Francis played with the Radars for the weekend who took winning place in the 13/Under division and thanks to Saskia, Tahlia and Natalie Littler who filled in with Radars 2 in Division 2.

The teams were also treated to an exhibition match between the Marlins and the Marlin Coast Academy athletes, well done to Corrine Garland for umpiring the game!

Douglas Netball would like to thank all the parents, players, coaches and umpires for your attendance and help over the weekend, also to Innisfail Netball Association for a great canteen and venue and special thanks the Heather & Les McLaren for running the competition.
