Cairns Airport to continue as Ironman side-kick

Cairns Airport’s partnership with IRONMAN Cairns will continue for the next three years, with the airport extending its sponsorship deal yesterday.

The  announcement comes as the city prepares to welcome visitors and competitors to this year’s IRONMAN Cairns event, on June 9.

Under the partnership, Cairns Airport will continue as the naming rights partner for IRONMAN Cairns and the Cairns Adventure Festival until 2016.

For Cairns Airport, it’s a case of “so far, so good” with the iconic Ironman brand, according to airport CEO Kevin Brown.

One of the leading sports brands in the world, “the Ironman brand is a key platform for us in attracting visitors from Asian source markets, “ Mr. Brown said.

And with Cairns quickly developing as an Australian adventure capital, Cairns Airport’s continued investment is a vote of confidence in Far North Queensland tourism.

In return,  Cairns and its airport are positioned on a global stage, through affiliation with 30 other IRONMAN events, and almost double that number of Half-Ironman races around the world.
