Sharks looking for 1st win under lights
Both the Mossman Port Douglas Sharks and their opposition, Atherton, will be looking for their first win of the season when they go head to head at Mossman Showgrounds on Saturday night.
The Sharks had a tough road trip in round two of the Bendigo Bank A-grade CDRL season last week when they lost to Brothers Innisfail 54 to 6 at Calendar Park.
The heavy loss has propelled the Sharks to the bottom of the ladder and they will be looking to turn on a good performance against the Roosters in front of a parochial home crowd under lights.
The first home game of the season will be welcome relief for the Sharks, who also had a 20-point loss to Ivanhoes in round one at Smithfield.
The club is also still looking for interested players for under 18s and C grade sides. The club says it has possible coaches and players interested but need more players in order to make full lists. Expressions of interested can be made to the committee at the home game this Saturday.
In other games, reigning premiers Brothers will also be looking to notch their first win of the season when they host the red-hot Southern Suburbs in a blockbuster at Alley Park on Sunday.
Brothers played out a surprise 20-20 draw against underdogs Yarrabah in round one and then had a bye last weekend.
Meanwhile, Suburbs have been in scorching form, beating southern corridor rivals Edmonton in their opener, before thrashing Yarrabah 70-20 last weekend.
Yarrabah will want to bounce back from that heavy loss to Suburbs when they travel to Mareeba on Saturday night, Suburbs getting their season up and running with an impressive 32-12 defeat of Edmonton in round two.
Edmonton and Ivanhoes face each other on Sunday afternoon at Smithfield, with the Storm desperate to get their first points of the season on the board, while unbeaten Tully Tigers have a bye.
The Sharks-Roosters game starts at 7pm.
