Palmer Sea Reef to be big in Japan

The Palmer Sea Reef will feature in a Japanese travel program as part of a renewed marketing push to entice the Asian market to holiday in Australia, after the golf course was selected by Tourism Queensland as one of the regions must-see attractions.

Soon to be broadcasted by Japanese network tv asahi, the program will showcase Australia’s top ten travel experiences in four key destinations, including the Gold Coast, Sydney, Cairns and Uluru.

Filming at the Clive Palmer-owned golf course wrapped up last week and saw highly acclaimed Japanese celebrities and program presenters Masaru Nagai and Rie Kato hit the course’s plush fairways.

Palmer Sea Reef General Manager David Roche said he was thrilled the Palmer Sea Reef was selected as one of Cairns’ top destinations to help show all that the country has to offer.

“It’s great to see Queensland tourism renewing their push into the Asian market,” he said.

“We are very happy to be part of this showcase and to be able to show that our region has a lot to offer, from the reef to the rainforest and everything in between.

“The Asian tourism market continues to be one of the state’s most valuable markets and the program is anticipated to expose the golf course to over 1 million viewers.

“This presents excellent promotional and potential tourism opportunities not only for the Palmer Sea Reef but the region as a whole,” he said.

Mr Nagai, who is a keen golfer, said he was enjoying his time in far North Queensland and was impressed with the golf course’s tropical location.

“It is a very beautiful course and I wish I had more time so I could play a full round,” Mr Nagain said after sneaking off for a couple of quick holes with Ms Kato following filming.

As the gateway to the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest, the Port Douglas golf course will help showcase the nature, coastal lifestyle and food and wine experiences the region boasts.

The one hour episode is part of a four part series and is expected to air in late April or Early May.
