Mossman Shooting Report for Sat 2 March
The humidity was stifling and clammy on the 500 metre range with a vigorous mirage in attendance which saw five brave shooters turn up to compete against each other and the extremely moist conditions.
First on the mound was our club stalwart, Ron Schild competing in the 308 Full Bore shoot. Ron opened with a 4 and a V Bull which he kept and then he went on to shoot a mixed bag of shots with four V Bulls to post a first round score of 44/4 in the ten shot match.
Next down was Robert (Gus) Gusmeroli competing in the F Class comp. Gus opened with a 4 and a 6. He cut the 4 and kept the 6 and went on to shoot a surprisingly good range to post a score of 53 from a possible 60 with ten shots.
Malcom McKellar was our next shooter up. Mal laid down on the mound and shouldered his 308 Full Bore rifle and squeezed off eight Bull Eyes and two V Bulls to give him a perfect first range score of 50/2. A very surprising score due to the fact that Mal has been away from the range for three months.
Ron Schild was back for his second 500 metre range shoot, Ron opened with two Bull Eyes which he kept and then squeezed off a plethora of mixed shots to him a final score of 48/2 in the Full Bore 11 shot match.
Gus Gusmeroli was back for his second round. Gus opened with a 5 and 3. He chose to cut them and then went on to shoot mainly 6’s and 5’s with two 4’s sneaking in to give him a final score of 57 from a possible 66.
Malcom McKellar was again back for his second 500 metre range in the Full Bore Comp.Mal opened with a 5 and a V Bull which he kept and went on to shoot a near perfect score with a 4 sneaking in to give him 54/7 V Bulls from a possible 55 in the 11 shot match.
Neil Attwood was next to shoot in the Full Bore comp, Neil opened with a 5 and a 4 , he kept them and went on to shoot all around the target to post a first range score of 42/1 and before he let his barrel cool down a bit he was at it again for his second 500 metre range. Neil opened with a 3 and a V Bull, he cut the 3 and went on to squeeze off a near perfect score of 54/5 dropping only one point in the 11 shot match.
Then the last shooter down on the mound was Chris Wilson trying his hand at both disciplines. Chris shouldered his 308 Full Bore open sights rifle and let go three Bull Eyes and a 3 for a final score of 18/20 and then he shouldered an F Class scoped Rifle and shot two 6’s , a 4 and a 5 to give him a score of 21/24.
In Summary, a good sweat was had by all and tight competition also. Malcom McKellar took out honours with a double range score of 104/9 in the Full Bore comp followed by Neil Attwood on 96/6 in second and Ron Schild in third on 92/6. Gus Gusmeroli‘s double range score was 110 from a possible126.
