Easter golf tournament

A Group of cheeky European Palmer Sea Reef members are daring to challenge the club’s Australian members in a President Cup-style format over the Easter long weekend, with the winner claiming ultimate golfing supremacy.

Members and guest golfers will join forces with their fellow countrymen as they battle to claim the title as the world’s best golfing nation in a four ball match-play on Good Friday and individual stroke play on the Saturday, with the net scores counting towards the team total.

Palmer Sea Reef General Manager and golf professional, David Roche, said the inaugural event is set to become an annual Easter weekend tournament at the Port Douglas golf course.

“We hope this is a format that appeals to all golfers,” he said.
“There aren’t too many opportunities to gather as a group and play team match-play against your friends anymore.

“Golf is meant to be a competitive game with a social side - this combines both and has the added spice of an international rivalry, so I think it will be a very popular event.”

Presentations on Saturday afternoon will be accompanied by a tropical Easter barbecue, with lucky card draws for gifts left by the Easter bunny himself for spa treatments, reef day trips, sunset cruises and an Easter hamper choc-filled with goodies.

The event has been embraced by the members and local business with them donating prizes for every par three, along with vouchers and an Easter hamper.
Roche said the clubhouse would also open on Sunday morning for a traditional family-style Easter breakfast.

“Easter is a time to share as a family, good food, great laughs and loads of chocolate,” he said. “Our clubhouse offers breathtaking views over the course and mountains and is a fantastic family venue for a Sunday morning breakfast".

“Our new chef Karl Sternberg will provide traditional brekkie favourites that are sure to make your mouth water, making chocolate consumption just that little bit easier this Easter.”

David will also conduct a junior putting clinic and putting competition to help bolster the kids chocolate supplies.
