Drugs and property bust nets 39 charges

Mossman detectives have seized drugs and property with an estimated street value of $300,000 following the completion of Operation Cairns Dragon.

Senior Constable Russ Parker said police executed 13 search warrants targeting a series of homes and properties in the Port Douglas, Mossman, Daintree and Julatten areas.


“A quantity of cannabis, methamphetamines and morphine were seized along with cultivation equipment, firearms and drug utensils,” Senior Constable Parker said.


“As a result of Operation Cairns Dragon we have arrested and charged 14 people with 39 drug and property offences.”


Thirteen men aged between 20 and 68 years and one boy aged 16 will face court next month. The charges include drugs and weapons offences, indecent treatment of a child and indecent acts.


Officers from Mossman and Mareeba CIB, Mt Molloy and Port Douglas stations and the Cairns Tactical Crime Squad were involved in Operation Cairns Dragon.


“Operation Cairns Dragon was an ongoing investigation and we would like to acknowledge the great work of all the officers involved,” Senior Constable Parker said.


“The closure of this operation will certainly have a significant impact on the availability of illicit drugs in the region.”


The charges are as follows:
• 16-year-old Daintree boy charged with one count of possession of a dangerous drug and possession of a utensil.
• 20-year-old Port Douglas man charged with one count each of possession of a dangerous drug and possession of a utensil.
• 20-year-old Mossman man charged with one count of possession of a drug utensil.
• A 31-year-old Mossman Gorge man identified during the operation was charged with three counts each of indecent treatment of a child and indecent acts and one count of misuse of a telecommunications device.
• 32-year-old Port Douglas man charged with one count each of possession of a dangerous drug, possession of a utensil and failing to dispose of a syringe.
• 33-year-old Mowbray man charged with one count each of producing a dangerous drug exceeding schedule 3, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of a thing used in connection with the consumption of a dangerous drug and possession of a utensil.
• 37-year-old Port Douglas man charged with one count each of possession of a dangerous drugs and possession of utensils.
• 38-year-old Julatten man charged with one count each of producing a dangerous drug, possession of a thing used in connection with the consumption of a dangerous drug, unlawful possession of a firearm and two counts of possession of a dangerous drug.
• 44-year-old Julatten man charged with one count each of production of a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug, possession of property used in connection with an offence, possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of a drug utensil.
• 49-year-old Julatten man charged with one count of production of dangerous drugs exceeding a schedule.
• 48-year-old Port Douglas man charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm.
• 49-year-old Mossman man charged with one count of possession dangerous drug.
• 49-year-old Daintree man charged with one count each of production of a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of a utensil.
• 67-year-old Mossman man charged with one count of permitting premises to be used for the commission of a crime.
