Dog attack in Wonga
A 61 year-old Wonga woman was attacked by a dog early yesterday morning in Snapper Island Drive in front of horrified students on their way to school.
Denise Collins, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, sustained shock and six puncture wounds to her lower left leg before her husband, Chris Dahlberg, was able to chase the large dog, believed to be a Rottweiler, away.
"The dog's owner was found shortly after the attack and could offer no help and made no attempt to control the dog or console my wife or myself," Mr Dahlberg told The Newsport.
Mr Dahlberg said he has contacted the Wonga Beach Primary School to make the Principal aware of the incident, and expressed concern for the safety of the children.
Police were notified but directed Ms Collins and Mr Dahlberg to contact Council. The Council's animal management department contacted the dogs owner to secure the dog pendng enquiries today in accordance with the Queensland Animal Management Act 2008.
