Big Saturday night out at Yacht Club

This coming saturday the Port Douglas Yacht Club in association with Slaphappy! and Radio Port Douglas are hosting a massive night of live local music. Entry $5 on the door.

Four up and coming local groups are performing from 5pm this saturday evening and we thought, just in case you don't know them all, you would like to have a little info about each band before the big night of music and mayhem. So we've laid out a few notes and mini bios for each band to help you get the inside track...

Jobstopper
We're some relatively friendly guys who play ska-punk music. We got an EP you can download from our bandcamp site, it's not very good but it's free.  2013 will see us hit most of Australia on tour, so there's a good chance we'll be in your hometown playing with a whole bunch of bands better than us.
We enjoy playing shows anywhere at any time, from empty clubs to festival stages. You supply the beer and we'll supply the good times. Our good times are like KFC's good times, but it's not delivered by some dropkick who was once in a pop-punk band and now plays unidentifiable techno-babble rock. Also you don't have to hang out with Michael Slater.
We don't like to toot our own horns (ROFLOL!) here at Jobstopper, so here's some words that have been said by the crowd at our shows!

"Yeah I'm a big fan of you guys hey!" - Trevor's Dad

"You guys killed it!" - Andy Parkinson

"Play some AC/DC!" - Unknown

'James! Robert! Get down off that stage!' - Presumably James and Roberts Father

'Seriously, guys, you killed it!' - Andy Parkinson

'I love the trumpets and stuff..." - Drunk Girl #1

'Wil is so cute! Like a cute little leprechaun!' - Trevor's Mum

'I think Casey was upset when I threw my shoes at him.' - Chris Hayes

'They were young and they were c**ts, but the music was pretty good' - Drunk girl #2

'Hey, seriously guys, stop swearing. We just got a complaint.' - Security Guard

Peyote
Hailing from Cairns in Tropical Far Nth Qld, Peyote is best described as Heavy Psychedelic Groove Rock.  Debuting their set in March 2011, the band quickly established themselves as one of the premier hard rock outfits for the Nth Qld region, going on to support acts such as The Butterfly Effect, Shihad, Calling all cars & Evil Eddie.
With a rhythm section big on the groove & an axeman that loves to chunk, their energetic & gritty sound is complimented by a vocalist that's been compared to the likes of Hetfield, Patton & Perkins to name a few. Armed with a catalogue of songs that range from the darkest of themes to the downright comical, it is evident from the get go that this four piece band are passionate
about the true power of music, without ever taking themselves too seriously.
Their debut EP, 'Disambiguation', can be downloaded for free at their bandcamp page, which can be found on this page, but the band and fans alike will agree that the live arena is where they truly shine.

Sworf
We formed in May 2012 and are an original hard rock act with great catchy tunes and big live show.
Our first show was The Global Battle Of The Bands in which we won and will compete in the national final this year in Sydney for a spot in the world grand final.  From there we played some awesome shows like The Heyday Fest in Cairns , The Kuranda Motorcycle Fest and various other local shows that included our CD launch , where we were joined by about 300 people and some other awesome local bands.
We are currently nominated for Cairns best local band for 2012 in The Hit Awards.  Moving quicker than we expected , we have adjusted to demand by rehearsing our arses off, recording an E.P. and have merchandise in production.
Our plans for 2013 are to keep moving forward as much as possible, by gigging with some bigger bands that push through our region , record another release and make a start on a film clip for our new single.
Sworf are a professional band that won't dissapoint. We just need a local leg up and who knows , we may be able to give up our day jobs and hit the road.

Meat Bikini
Meat Bikini are a bunch of slackers in for the long haul (MB formed in 2003) from North Queensland. Our members come from a die hard pedigree of musicians who have been around the Cairns scene since the early nineties putting on gigs and playing in bands. We have been lucky enough on the way to play with bands like The Hard Ons, Frenzal Rhomb, Guttermouth, No Use for A Name and Strung Out to name a few. Not to mention all the awesome Queensland bands we have played with at our local gigs! So come to Cairns it still rocks!
