Basketball club starts this week

The new Douglas Heat Basketball Club will kick off this Wednesday at the new $5.5 million Port Douglas cyclone shelter with two free sessions over the coming weeks.

Children aged 6 to 12 are invited to attend from 3.30pm until 5pm this Wednesday 13 and Wednesday 20 March to gauge interest for a Port Douglas-based competition to run at the shelter between June until December with breaks for school holidays.

Boys and girls of all basketball capabilities are invited to the free-of-charge shoot-around, which will include a short skills session and the chance to win Cairns Taipans giveaways.

Parents are welcome to check out the cyclone shelter’s new facilities next to Port Douglas State School (Endeavour Street), which include the Douglas region’s first fully air-conditioned basketball court, full change rooms with showers, meeting rooms and a full commercial kitchen/canteen.

Information on the upcoming season will be provided at the sessions.
