Action and adventure for youths
Youths of the Mossman area - get pumped, get motivated and get ready for an awesome week of festivities as part of National Youth Week, April 5-14.
Designed for youths aged 12 to 25 years, the festivities feature action-packed activities brought to the community by Cairns Regional Council in partnership with the Queensland Police Service, Blue Light, the Indigenous Marathon Project and Back Country Bliss Tours.
The events kick off with XBOX games, OzTag, air brush tattooing and a sausage sizzle at George Davis Park on Saturday, April 6 between 9am and midday.
On Sunday, April 7, tactical skills will be put to the test when there is a full day of hiking, bushcraft, navigation and other exercises around the beautiful Douglas region. Participants can be collected from Mossman Post Office at 8.30am and Port Douglas Post Office at 9am.
Then on Sunday, April 14, endurance, fun and fitness will be tested as the National Youth Week festivities conclude with a fun run and marathon at 8am from Mossman Hospital.
Mossman Police spokesman, Detective Sergeant Trevor Perham said National Youth Week was a great initiative strongly supported by the Mossman Police to build rapport and relationships with local youth.
“From a police point of view, there are issues with today’s youth and the closer the relationships are with the kids, the more harmony there is for the whole community,” Detective Sergeant Perham said.
“The Mossman and Port Douglas community is a tight-knit and friendly community and we generally do have a good rapport. The activities for National Youth Week is designed to strengthen that rapport.”
There will also be prizes on offer for those taking part.
