Rates notices issued
In what is likely to be an influencing factor in the way residents vote at the upcoming referendum on de-amalgamation, Cairns Regional Council have begun issuing half-yearly rates notices.
Many unit owners were shocked at the large increases in rates during 2012, with some reporting rises by as much as 15 per cent.
Council has asked ratepayers who do not receive their rates notice by Friday, 1 February, to contact them. Payment is due on February 25.
Anyone who is having difficulty paying their rates is asked to contact Council as soon as possible to discuss a payment plan.
For more information on payment options – including setting up a regular direct debit system – visit www.cairns.qld.gov.au or contact Council’s customer service team on 4044 3044.
