Get started with $150

The Queensland Department of National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing's "Get Started" program starts at 9am on the 15th January.

Under the "Get Started" program the Department is giving out $150 vouchers to eligible children to spend at registered sports clubs.

Children aged between 5 and 18 whose parents have a valid Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card or have been referred by two agents are eligible to apply for the vouchers.

In the Mossman and Port Douglas district the following clubs are registered under the Get Started program:

            - Coral Coast Judo Club;

            - Douglas Shire Little Athletics;

            - Douglas United Football Club;

            - Mossman and District Gymnastics Club;

            - Mossman Amateur Basketball Association;

            - Mossman Archery Club;

            - Mossman Golf Club;

            - Mossman Junior Rugby League Club.

A parent, carer or guardian of an eligible child or young person can apply online for a voucher from 9am on the 15th January 2013. When applying for a voucher, the following details will be required:

a) name, age and date of birth of the child or young person

b) name, address, telephone number and email address of the parent, carer or guardian.

c) a valid Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card number, or if the child or young person is being referred, the contact details of two referral agents.

If a child is eligible for 'Get Started', they are not guaranteed a voucher.  The funding will be distributed in two rounds each year on a first come, first served basis. Once the allocation for each round is exhausted, the program will close and no further vouchers will be offered for that round.
