Edwards silences critics
Wow, just when I'd lost faith with the direction of this Taipans squad they come out and give their best home display for the year and keep their playoff chances alive.
The boys started the round on the bottom of the ladder but remarkably are only one win from the top 4!
All of a sudden you'd rather be Aaron Fearne than Gordie Mcleod (Wollongong coach) but a month ago one wouldn't have changed places in a lifetime!
Two weeks ago I called for changes in the squad, especially import Shane Edwards, and on Friday night against the Tigers he pulls out a 'Jordanesque' last quarter to help us get the much needed 'W'.
From the NBL website:
'Jamar Wilson provided the early steam before his American teammate Shane Edwards tore the roof off the Cairns Convention Centre with a remarkable final quarter to give the Taipans a much-needed 85-71 win against the Melbourne Tigers on Friday night."
Fantastic boys, and that's the best way to answer the critics when one's back is to the wall. The Tigers get another crack at us on Sunday on their turf and if we've turned a corner we should get that win.
Round 17
Friday
NZ vs Perth, Top of the table clash & should be a beauty. Perth by 7
Adelaide vs Gong. possibly clash of the spoon. Gong by 2
Saturday
T/ville vs Sydney. TV very unlucky to lose to Pert in Perth last round and HAVE turned a corner. TV by 12
Sunday
Tigers vs Taipans. Taipans only just by 2 in O/T!
Perth vs Gong. Perth by 20 against an injury ravaged Hawk outfit.
A must win for the Snakes...
