Douglas Athletics receives grants
Douglas Athletics has had a great start to 2013 receiving $12,517 from the Community Benefit Gambling Fund to upgrade the long and triple jump pits at the Mossman High School.
The grant funding will allow the runways to be levelled, drainage installed and the configuration to be changed from two jumps pits to four.
The funding will also provide covers for the pits and a rotary hoe to help with the maintenance. The Club will now be able to provide a safe jumps area for the athletes and students and it is anticipated to be ready for the start of the athletics season on 17 April.
The Club was also successful in the Reef Casino Community Fund latest round and will receive $3,600 to install a discus enclosure and remove the old soccer goals that have been acting as the protection barrier.
This year, Douglas Athletics has dual affiliation with Little Athletics Qld and Athletics North Queensland (ANQ) enabling the club to cater for athletes of all ages.
If you are interested in volunteering as a coach or assisting for the season either email the club at douglaslittleathletics@hotmail.com or phone 0437 213 108.
