Click goes the Snakes boys

Aaron Grabau you bloody ripper! This game was shown on ONE HD against Wollongong on Friday night and the veteran pulled out a match winning performance.

Kudos also to Alex Loughton who landed a couple of ‘daggers’ to put the Gong away in overtime. I must admit, midway through the third quarter I thought the boys were gonna get out-classed and have another double digit loss.

But then a strange chain of events occurred. The game was turned on its head late in the fourth when Aaron Grabau came up with an amazing eight-point possession for Cairns. Grabau was fouled by Glen Saville while attempting a three-pointer and Saville then picked up a technical foul for remonstrating the call.

Grabau made all five free throws and nailed a triple on the ensuing possession to turn a six-point deficit into a two-point lead in just seconds. Had Grabau erred on any of these shots (22 for the game) Cairns were gone for all money.

Well done to the ‘King of Sri Lanka’ who seems to be like an ageing bottle of plonk and was unlucky not to get the NBL’s ‘Player of the Round.’

One week after calling for import Shane Edwards' blood the ‘back to the wall’ American came out very aggressively. He had 16 points and 9 rebounds for the game but it was the fact he took 16 shots that caught my eye.

My guess is that the coaching staff have decided not to make any personnel changes this season and have told him to have a red hot crack!

I also noticed in the pre game against Perth he was in the middle of their before game dancy jig thing which tells me all the boys are determined to help get this import involved and make his roster spot work.

The cutting of imports is becoming a lot more rare with all clubs due to finances of late so let’s hope Edwards can repay the faith and not go out guessing!
