Blues fall short in Mareeba

This week Muddies Blue headed to Mareeba for their 30 over match and felt good about being top of the table. However, this was to be short lived.

Skipper Cody won the toss with the 'tails never fails' philosophy and elected to bat on what was a good batting deck and a fast outfield in patches.

Openers Sam Hodgson and Keith Taylor opened the batting and as usual made a great 49 off 11 overs until Sam was caught and bowled for 21 off 37 balls.

Simon Cody was in next and got stuck in but it was Keith Taylor who was unlucky to be given out caught behind for 27 off 50 balls and the Muddies were now 2/55 off 16 overs.

The Muddies knew they had to lift the run rate after drinks, but Cody fell for 23 off 32 balls with the top 3 all getting starts but unable to score as quickly as they normally do.

The pressure was now on the Muddies as Logan Marsh was given LBW for 1, and Nathan King run out on 8 when he was clearly in. Gary Postans only added 5 and this had the Muddies 6/103 off 25 overs.

In came Rob Gaul who has been struggling for runs in last few games, but this time he did not disappoint, and with some good hitting finished on 21n.o. at a run a ball.

Matt C also held his wicket for 10 off 12 to see the Muddies finish on 8/134 from their 30 overs.

The Muddies knew they would have to field and bowl well to secure this win.  Dave Johnson opened the bowling with Nathan King but were unable to get the breakthrough in their first spell.

The Muddies could only manage 3 wickets with Johnson on 1/30 off his six overs, King 0/25 off his 4, Gary Postans picked up one to have 1/22 off 4, and Vic Chandra who was the pick of the bowlers and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket finished with 0/9 off 4. Sam Hodgson also picked up one to have 1/14 off 3 overs.

Some loose bowling and not enough runs left the Muddies with a loss in the 27th over.

Next game is at home with a double header for the club. Muddies Blue play Mulgrave Toads at 1.30pm and Muddies Green playing United at 8.30am.
