Australia Day celebrated

Aussies around the nation gathered at barbecues, bars, and family events to celebrate Australia Day on Saturday.

The blessing of the fleet at the Combined Clubs in Port Douglas kicked off festivities, despite the annual yacht time-trial around Low Isles being cancelled for the first time in 50 years due to public liability insurance costs.

But that setback was quickly put to one side as families flocked to the fun of the fair and kids danced, played (and played up), and took full advantage of the opportunity to be outside after last week's wild weather.

And what could be better than enjoying a care-free Saturday in the tropics with friends and family? Well, today's public holiday is a good start.
